Jones has successful hip surgery

By: Mike Pantaleone

After the devastating 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Home in Game 6, the Flyers regrouped themselves and looked forward. Many of the Flyers are banged up from the Playoffs, and some will need surgery. Mike Richards was the first to be announced, as he recently had a shoulder surgery that will take him up to 12 weeks to recover from.

Next is Flyers' defenseman Randy Jones.

Jones had inflamed tissue and scar tissue removed from his right hip yesterday in Nashville, performed by Thomas Byrd. Jones missed 32 games last season with the same injury. He is expected to make a full recovery within 4-6 weeks.

“Jones had immediate relief from the surgery they did today,” General Manager Paul Holmgren said, yesterday.

No word yet on whether Antero Niittymaki will need surgery on his hip injury as well, who also visited with Byrd. Simon Gagne is injured as well, and will meet with doctors in New York this week for testing on his hip.
