Jones Waived

As speculated the entire summer, Randy Jones was waived this afternoon. The move will give the Flyers financial flexibility which could mean a roster spot for James Van Riemsdyk. With this move the Flyers can potentially carry a 22 or 23 man roster for the upcoming campaign. The speculation is that Mike Pyorala and Van Riemsdyk have earned roster spots.

As for Jones, his dismissal is purely based on numbers. A 2.75 million dollar cap hit for a 6th defencemen is simply not affordable with today's salary cap. Jones posted 31 points in his first campaign with the Flyers and was unable to live up to his contract extension, mainly due to hip injuries.

The buzz on the internet right now, has Jones going to the Rangers has a waiver claim or potentially on re-entry waivers.

Tollefsen or Syvret who's number 6?
